The village of Embrosneros nestles, surrounded by oak trees, into a gentle fold in the green picturesque foothills of the majestic mountain range “Lefka Ori” (White Mountains), 5km south of Vrysses. It is an ancient village that can be dated back to at least 1355, when it belonged to the Latin patriarch of Constantinople. The village is best known for the notable farmer and janissary Alidakis, who had a big estate in the village.
The village remains untouched by modern day tourism, and the area is one of extreme unspoilt natural beauty, offering a perfect base for walkers and nature enthusiasts, or those wanting to relax and enjoy the tranquility of a traditional Cretan village. A stroll into the village one will find a small Kafenio and a tavern serving simple Cretan dishes.
Just a 7min drive away is the larger village of Vrysses with several taverns, kafenia, super markets, bank, post office, and a few minutes driving on, is the National Highway Chania-Rethymno, and the long sandy beach of Georgioupolis is reachable in approx. 15min.
