The traditional village of Palios Agios Athanasios has recently developed impressively for tourism and has evolved into the top winter resort of Macedonia. The ski resort of Kaimaktsalan, the highest ski centre in Greece, with 14 ski slopes of 11km in total is only 18km from the village. Other activities in the area include rafting, trekking, and thermal baths.
